DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH

2 July 1951 in Žagarė, Lithuania.

EDUCATION

1969  Finished the1st secondary school in Panevėžys (present                   J. Balčikonis gymnasium).

 

1969–1974    Vilnius University, the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, graduated with citation.                                

 

1974–1977  PhD studies at Moscow M.Lomonosov’s University, Faculty of Applied Mathematics

 

1978  Defended a doctoral thesis in physics and mathematics in the aforesaid University

 

1984   Was granted the scientific degree of Docent.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Since 10 December 2008  Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania

 

2007–2008    Deputy Mayor of Vilnius Municipality

 

2002–2007 Deputy Director of JSC “Eika”

 

2000–2001 Deputy Chancellor of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania

 

1993–2000   Work positions at: the insurance company “ Tukana”,  JSC  Turto bankas, Vilnius branch of JSC Šiaulių bankas

 

1991–1993  Mayor of Vilnius Municipality

 

1989–1991  Head of the Chair of Differential Equations and Computation Mechanics at Vilnius University

 

1977–2000 Lecturer at the Computation Mathematics Chair of Vilnius University, scientific research work

 

1973–1992  Published more than 60 scientific articles.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY

Since 2007  Vilnius City Municipality Council member

 

2006  Together with like-minded fellows founded the Liberals’ Movement of the Republic of Lithuania                     

 

2001–2004     Executive Secretary of Lithuanian Liberal Union and                 the Liberal and Centre Union

 

2000–2001  Vilnius City Municipality Council member

 

1999–2006  Member of Lithuanian Liberal Union, later –  member of the Liberal and Centre Union

 

1990–1993  Vilnius City Municipality Council member

 

1988 Involved in activities of Lithuanian movement for Independence initially at Vilnius University, later in Vilnius city, published numerous articles and reviews on topicalities of Lithuanian political life in the following newspapers: “Atgimimas”, “Amžius”, “Lietuvos rytas”, “Respublika”, and Internet sites, initiated several Draft Laws.

MARITAL STATUS 

Married. Wife Nijolė, also mathematician, works in Vilnius branch of SE “ Registrų centras”. Daughter Gabrielė works at AB bankas “Hansabankas“. Son Augustas works at UAB “Bilietų bankas”.

HOBBIES

Besides politics takes interest in theatre, science fiction, statistics of sports. Member of Vilnius Rotary Club “Perkūnas”.

LANGUAGES

English, Russian, Polish and Czech.
